Liberia
In Liberia, the Electoral Commission is expected to announce the final results of the October 10 general elections this Tuesday according to several local sources.
The body in charge of organizing and proclaiming the final results has already counted the ballots from 99.9% of the 5,890 polling stations in Liberia and outgoing President Georges Weah comes out on top with a slim majority of 43.84% or 803,674 votes ahead of Joseph Boakai 43.44% or 796,313 votes which is equivalent to a difference of 7,361 votes or 0.40%. According to observers, this is the narrowest gap in Liberian history since the end of the war.
None of the candidates having been able to obtain 50% of the votes plus one, we are moving towards a second round, the date of the second round of which will be given by the Electoral Commission. And this decisive round should be played out in the county of Montserrado which has almost a million votes.
The main opposition candidate in Liberia, Joseph Boakai, is courting small parties before this second round against outgoing President George Weah which should be held on November 7, unless there is a last-minute change.
Georges Weah won the 2017 election thanks to the high hopes raised by his promise to fight poverty and promote the development of infrastructure in Africa's oldest republic.
For Davidetta Browne-Lansanah, president of the NEC, the funds required for the organization of the second round of elections are finally available and the vote should take place without great difficulty.
